Who are Interventional Radiologists?

Minimally Invasive Specialists

Interventional Radiologists (IRs) are medical doctors who specialize in using radiology imaging (ultrasound, x-rays, CT, MRI) to diagnosis and treat a wide range of diseases of the vascular (arteries and veins) system and nearly every organ system in the body.

IR doctors are board certified in both Diagnostic Radiology and Interventional Radiology.  They use the latest cutting edge technology and radiology imaging in ‘real-time’ to perform targeted, minimally invasive procedures to diagnose and treat cancer, arterial and venous diseases, blood clots, and many other types of illness.   The images are used to navigate small instruments into the body through the tiniest of incisions.  Our minimally invasive techniques equate to less risk, less pain and less recovery time than traditional open surgery.

Innovators

Since the birth of our specialty in 1964, IRs have been known for innovation and advancing new treatments in medicine.  As the inventors of balloon angioplasty and the catheter-delivered stent, interventional radiologists helped pioneer modern minimally invasive medicine.

Many conditions that once required surgery can now be treated non-surgically by Interventional Radiologists. By minimizing the physical trauma to the patient, peripheral interventions can reduce infection rates and recovery time, as well as shorten hospital stays.

Compassionate Clinicians

Whether you come to see an Interventional Radiologist in the clinic, or in the hospital, our mission is to provide our patients with personalized compassionate care.  IR doctors are clinical consultants as well as diagnosis and treatment specialists.  We offer full clinical evaluations, recommendations and second opinions for many different conditions.   Our friendly staff and compassionate doctors ensure that you are the focus and not your condition.

What Are The Advantages Of Interventional Radiology?

Minimally invasive - nearly all incisions are smaller then the eraser of a standard pencil.
Most procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis or require only a short hospital stay.
General anesthesia usually is not required.
Risk, pain and recovery time are often significantly reduced.
The procedures are sometimes less expensive than surgery or other alternatives.
